About this course

So you are a service provider and want to work someone who hoards.  With five percent of the population affected by hoarding, the demand for skilled help far exceeds the number of qualified service providers available.

Wendy Hanes and Angela Esnouf have more than 20 years’ experience helping people who hoard to live safely and comfortably. Our practical strategies have been developed under real conditions, so we know that anyone who enters a hoarded home can make a difference immediately.

Providing services in a hoarding home presents special challenges. This edition of the course includes an extra module covering business specific issues such as finding clients, building a sustainable business and avoiding burnout.

The online format is designed so that you can learn at your own pace.  You’ll build knowledge, skills and confidence in the comfort of your own home or office.

We know everyone has their own learning style, so each course has easy to understand workbooks, video lessons, real life stories from our own experience and resources and tools to help you get the work done. We recommend you allow 12 x 1-hour sessions to complete the course.

You’ll also have unlimited access to updates as new discoveries and innovations in the field are made. On completion, you’ll be invited to join our closed Facebook group where you can meet like-minded professionals, as well as people affected by hoarding, who may require your services.

If you are ready to dive in and start learning, great!  We can’t wait to teach you.

Testimonials

As a counsellor and coach specialising in loss, grief and chronic disorganisation, I can highly recommend this course to other mental health practitioners. Angela and Wendy combine their extensive knowledge and experience to provide this comprehensive course to assist professionals to help people experiencing hoarding. The course provides an introduction to hoarding, those affected by it, and those helping someone who hoards always with the client at the centre of the work and held in mind. Safety considerations are paramount in the information provided for the helper, the client and everyone else. Strategies for planning the work, coordinating services, decluttering, organising and the legal and ethical considerations are included. The often-challenging work is never undersold and this is done with respect. Supporting information is sourced from other global experts and agencies in Australia with examples from the fire brigade to local councils. The course provides a systems approach to working in this field for professional organisers, helping professionals, and family and friends. I look forward to being a part of this growing community that you are building. – Julie Jensen, Grief & Bereavement Counsellor and Coach, Changes in Between, Melbourne, Australia

I enjoyed the videos and listening to further explanations and examples. The information was well thought out, well set out and implemented in a manner that was easy to follow. The checklists and forms are fantastic too. I would absolutely recommend the course. – Marion Ivermee-Villarosa, A Place of Calm

This training was easy to navigate, super practical, engaging and relevant for anyone that works with clients with chronic organisation issues through to those with hoarding tendencies. I liked that it was a mixture of sharing personal experience stories, external expert advice and practical tips. Kristina Duke, Decluttering Diva

I really enjoyed the clear lessons that were often common sense but put in a way that got you to think through situations. I also really liked the decluttering techniques that made me think outside the box. Romanie Ashton, Sensibly Organised
